Building upward is often the most economical way to gain space in a crowded city plot. But it must be done carefully.
Check the existing structure
An engineer must first study your foundation, columns and beams to confirm they can carry an extra load. If they cannot, they can be strengthened using methods such as jacketing.
Approvals
Most local authorities require a revised building map and permission for additional floors. Height and setback rules vary, so check them before you plan.
Choose lighter materials
AAC blocks and lightweight roofing reduce the load on the old structure.
Living during construction
Much of the work happens above your head, so plan for dust, noise and safe access. We schedule noisy work in daytime hours and protect the lower floor.
Cost and time
A typical extra floor takes 4 to 6 months, depending on size and finish.
